Resources for Consumers & Contractors

Looking for a Contractor?  “Get It In Writing” is a resource for consumers who want to make an informed decision when choosing a contractor.   It has tips and suggestions, links to relevant sites outlining consumer rights and health and safety requirements, insurance and legal requirements and is an excellent overall resource for the consumer and builder alike.

Members can find conference information, tools for connecting with customers and improving your business, national and provincial associations stance on code and political issues effecting the building industry and other resources at the Canadian and Ontario Home Builders' web sites.

Consumers can find information about buying and/or renovating a home, tips and suggestions for choosing a contractor as well as photos of award winning projects by national and provincial members that may give you some ideas for you own project.

Tarion Warranty Corporation regulates the home building industry and provides warranty services for new home buyers.  Their site has information that pertains to both new home buyers and builders.

The Workplace Safety & Insurance Board site is full of information about safety in any workplace.  Find out about current health and safety legislation, proposed changes in legislation, review research and policies, get safety tips, as well as report and file your WSIB premiums.

The environment and protecting our resources is on the forefront of Canadian issues.  Both consumers and builders can take steps during the building process to ensure that our finished products are the most energy efficient possible.  Current home owners can also take steps to upgrade items in their home to improve efficiency.  There are many incentive programs available that are designed to encourage and reward those who build or renovate with energy conservation in mind.  These sites provide information about some of these programs with tips and suggestions to make your project as ecofriendly as possible.

With members in Haliburton County, Hastings County and The District of Muskoka, our members cover a lot of area and a lot of townships, each with their own set of rules and regulations for the building industry.  The township sites can help builders and consumers make sure they understand the specifications in each area and provide contact information to resolve any questions that may arise before, during and after a project.
