14th Annual Hockey Tournament
January 27, 28 & 29, 2012
Haliburton, ON

The HCHBA is once again hosting our annual hockey tournament. The food banks in Haliburton County continue to be our charity of choice. They are most appreciative of our many years of donations to their very important work.

We will once again be looking for teams to participate in one of our four tournament categories: Home Builders, Ladies, Over 35 and the Open Division. If you are interested in a 5th division, "Over 50," please make that note on your application and IF there is enough interest in the division we will include it in the schedule. Get the girls or the guys together and join the HCHBA for a fun weekend of hockey to help beat the winter blues and raise a little money for a great cause! We look forward to seeing you there!

All hockey tournament and team registration information can be found here.

TRAINING COURSES

Fall Arrest Training
As of June 12, 2002, employers must ensure that a worker, who may use a fall protection system, is adequately trained in its use and is given adequate oral and written instruction by a competent person. To assist employers to meet this new regulation the HCHBA organizes courses in which an employer can make sure this requirement is met. For the next available course information and registration form, please contact the HCHBA office.

First Aid & WHMIS Training
The HCHBA encourages all members of the construction industry to create the safest work environment possible. A great part of this is making sure all those on site have adequate training to both prevent safety incidents and to deal with them should they occur. In order to help achieve this goal, the HCHBA organizes First Aid training courses for the benefit of all those who need it. Contact the HCHBA office for the next available course and registration form.

HCHBA IN THE COMMUNITY

HCHBA Contributes to HHSS Honours & Awards Ceremony and Receives a Special Thank You
Fall is the time of year when the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School gathers together to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of it's students. 2007 was no exception as on October 6, 2007 students and faculty gathered for this year's Honours & Awards Ceremony.

Andrew Burtch of G. J. Burtch Construction, also HCHBA's School Liason, was on hand to present two such outstanding students with $50.00 contributions to their post-secondary aspirations. Karl Kadwell and Connor Duhaime were this year's recipients due to their interest in trades during their time at HHSS.

Shortly thereafter, the HCHBA received this letter of thanks:

Dear Home Builders Association,

On October 6, 2007, at the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School Honours & Awards Ceremony I received The Haliburton County Home Builders Association Award.

I would like to thank you for the recognition of my interest in shop and my love for woodworking. Your contribution to my post-secondary education is greatly appreciated by both my school and me.

Thanks,
Karl Kadwell

Rob Stonehouse's Grade 12 Tech Design Class Builds An Arbour & Donates It To A Worthy Cause

Recently, the HCHBA teamed up with Rob Stonehouse of the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School and his Grade 12 Tech Design Class to undertake a building project.

Students Laurie Leblanc, Brandon Sutcliffe & Mike Xerri worked together to build an arbor which was donated to Haliburton County's first ever Relay For Life for the Canadian Cancer Society on June 15, 2007. The arbor was placed in the Silent Auction and helped the county raise an additional $425.00 for a cause that has effected us all.

Thank you to Rob Stonehouse and all the students for your excellent workmanship and generosity!

HCHBA Lends A Hand At The First Ever Haliburton County Relay For Life

On June 15, 2007, Haliburton County hosted it's first ever Relay For Life in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society. The target fundraising goal of $25,000.00 was surpassed with flying colours as they announced that as of event night $102,000.00 was raised and there was still money to be counted!

Many of our HCHBA members were eager to lend a hand as this is a disease that has touched so many people in this community. CRS was a generous sponsor of this event and The Pump Shop helped the organizers meet the demand to supply its participants with water over the course of this twelve hour event. Churko Electric helped plan and provide the event with all its electrical needs while Scott Doan of S & S Construction donated his time and truck to aid with the set up and tear down of the event site. Gary Burtch Construction and Petrini Construction were sites of much of the event planning as their employees Aggie Tose and Heather Cocksedge respectively, were members of the event Steering Committee.

The amazing success of this event is a shining example of the generosity of this wonderful community that we have the good fortune to be a part of. There is no denying that it was a truly rewarding experience for all those involved.

Organizers are already looking forward to next year's event which is to be held on Friday, June 13, 2008. Please log on to the www.cancer.ca relay to find out how you can get involved.
